A bleeding hemorrhoid is a usually harmless, yet frightening condition for some. It occurs when veins in the rectum or anus become swollen and painful, in some cases, a blood clot (thrombosis) may form in the vein, increasing the amount of pain and discomfort. Fortunately, there are several non-invasive treatments as well as surgical treatments available, depending on the seriousness of the hemorrhoids. The first step for every patient is to consider treating both the underlying cause and reduce that size of the hemorrhoid, without moving into any surgical procedures.

A suggested hemorrhoids diet is as follows:

  • Consume 2 cups of fruits daily. (Prunes are especially effective at keeping stool soft)
  • Consume 2 1/2 cups of vegetables daily, along with whole grains and beans.
  • Increase fibre intake to 20 to 35 grams a day. Below is a short list of food that contains 5 grams or more fiber/serving:

[Barley, Baked Beans, Split Peas, Oat Bran, Dates, Raspberries, Asian Pears, Green Peas, Prunes, Spinach, Broccoli, Shredded Wheat Cereal, Raisins, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Kellogg's All-Bran Cereal]

For quick hemorrhoids relief:

  • Mix a few teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in an 8-ounce glass of water
  • Drink this concoction during breakfast, lunch and dinner.

To treat bleeding hemorrhoids:

  • Blend a 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a glass of water.
  • Drink this mixture no more than twice a week till bleeding has ceased

To relief hemorrhoid pain & itching:

  • Sit in a bathtub filled with warm water 3 to 4 times a day
  • Rest on a folded tower or cushion when sitting.

The above treatments and dietary plans should be done in consultation with your physician who may refer you to a dietitian to asset you in your planning. There are so many different  websites offering various do’s and don’ts that makes it confusing for one to figure out what to do. Some suggest organic diets, others suggest certain herbs and spices. While some the ideas may be good, your doctor knows your body and your specific medical needs. For example, if you are a diabetic, there might be different food requirements. Choose a doctor you trust, and follow his/her advice.

Hemorrhoids Diet for Hemorrhoid Relief

Hemorrhoids can be a frustrating problem. Also commonly known as “piles”, Hemorrhoids are basically inflamed tissue or blood vessels at the lower rectum. Millions of people suffer silently from the itch, pain or bleeding. However, with proper care and proper diet, the patient can be successfully treated. A hemorrhoids diet and lifestyle is essential for successful care of the problem. There are several basic rules. They are as follows:

  • Increase Fibre Intake: Refined or processed foods have little fiber content and lots of animal fats. They do not have enough roughage for your intestine to pass the stool easily. Instead consume more fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains in your daily diet.
  • Increase Fluid Intake: Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Doing this helps soften your stools making it easier to pass out.
  • Exercise & Avoid sitting around for too long: Sitting too long add undue pressure to your hemorrhoidal veins. Take short breaks from desk job and move around to prevent hemorrhoids. Regular exercise is a great way to maintain a healthy digestive system.
  • Avoid Constipation: Practise good bowel habits by scheduling time for bowel movement or going to the bathroom when you have the urge. Avoid straining to pass tools.

All decisions about your dietary intake should be made in consultation with a dietitian and a doctor. You might have specific dietary requirements that other people may not have, or there may be some requirements that you need no follow on your hemorrhoids diet. For most people, following a strict diet, with positive lifestyle changes for a brief period of time will help hemorrhoid relief and get their bowels back to working order. There might be a need to stay on mediation for a while, but you can do it. Good luck.
